My votes for the Triple J Hottest 100 2012 (in a rough order – better songs at the bottom)
- Tyler Touché – Baguette?
- Japandroids – The House That Heaven Built (not in my personal top 10, but I’d love to see these guys do well)
- Lisa Mitchell – Bless This Mess
- The Vaccines – No Hope
- Grimes – Genesis
- Hot Chip – Motion Sickness
- Frank Ocean – Pyramids
- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Thrift Shop (feat. Wanz)
- Jonathan Boulet – Trounce
- Purity Ring – Fineshrine
Some songs that just missed out
- The Presets – Ghosts
- Chet Faker – Archangel
- Passion Pit – Take a Walk
Great songs, but you can only pick ten!
- His Majesty Andrew – Hymn
- Cloud Nothings – Stay Useless
Fun songs, but not as meaningful to me as the ten songs above (or as fun as “Thrift Shop”).
- Sleigh Bells – Comeback Kid
- Django Django – Default
These both would have been in my list if you’d asked me in June, but while I still like them, I don’t love them like I did at the start of the year.
- Velociraptor – Cynthia
One of my favourite songs of 2011. I’m not voting for it because Triple J haven’t played it for ages, and I don’t see it having any shot of making the list.
