Just one review for today: Captain America: The Winter Soldier over at Cheated Hearts. A good film, but one that disappointingly suggests it’s going to reinvigorate the increasingly tired Marvel formula before embracing it wholesale. Worth watching, but nothing special.
I still haven’t seen it, and you still liked it well enough, but that is still the most negative review I’ve yet read of The Winter Soldier. Hopefully, I like it more than you. Hopefully.
I’ve seen quite a few more negative takes than this on Twitter; I just think its the fanboys/girls (who tend to go “YES! I REMEMBER THIS FROM THE COMICS!” at the expense of critical thought) who are talking the loudest. I mean, an hour in I was prepared to rank it as one of the best Marvel films yet, on par with The Avengers at least, but it stumbled from there.
Aww…. I really enjoyed this one! : ) Oh well – we can’t all love it. This is the second not-fully-positive review I’ve read.
I liked it; it’s definitely one of the stronger Marvel films … I just wish it had lived up to the potential of the first half.
