As the latest offering in a long line of comebacks that bank on nostalgia – Absolutely Fabulous is back! The British sitcom that ran on and off for 20 years has now made its way to the big screen.
In Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, we’re quickly reacquainted with Edina (Jennifer Saunders), who continues to live a life of denial, and Patsy (Joanna Lumley) who’s still addicted to any substance she can inject, snort or pour into her body.
Sadly, the pair are running out of money to support the lifestyle they’ve become accustomed to. The answer? Eddie must sign Kate Moss to her PR agency and all their problems will be solved. Except, when approaching Kate, Eddie accidentally pushes her into the Thames… Cue the outlandish, laugh out loud adventure as Eddie and Patsy attempt to evade the law.
Written by star Jennifer Saunders, as a standalone film the plot felt a little disjointed and the conclusion wrapped up too quickly; blink and you might miss it. However, the film does what it promises: offers fans another crazy, glamorous adventure with characters that are as colourful as the film itself. Laughs, cameos and questionable life choices galore – welcome back Sweetie Darlings!
